Going Softly Into The Night

The sun slips away again. My father used to say ... "when a short man casts a long shadow ... you know the sun is setting." Today is the fifth anniversary of Dad's passing to be forever with the Lord. Did you ever think that the very moment you see the last of the sun on a horizon that there was someone standing somewhere on earth seeing their very first glimpse of it? The end of the day here is the beginning of a new day somewhere else. In a moment, Dad was suddenly changed. A new day had begun and the pain and trial of this life was over. Thinking of you today Pops! Glad you are there.
Love, Stephen

Awesome sunset, Steve
Mama was transferred to heaven on a full moon. So...full bright moon have a special tug on my heart. Mama's been gone 7 years and I haven't missed a single full moon. I always say "good night mama" when I look up a the softly lit night sky.

Good night Steve! :)

Wow. That picture is amazing. The colors simply call to me. I feel drawn to it, peaceful and serene. This would have to be one of my favorite pictures and for sure my favorite setting sun picture.

Beautiful! My favourite time of day. Time to reflect and meditate on our place in God's plan. I love it!

Oh, not to intrude on your beautiful and poignant tribute to your father, but I HAVE had that EXACT same thought MANY, MANY times. As a matter of fact, I went through quite a depressing time in my life, because I couldn't get thoughts such as those out of my head. And then I finally grew up, and realized it's all part of the life cycle...
Gorgeous photo, loving tribute.

I'm so sorry Steve. Today is the 3rd anniversary of my nephew's homegoing. I will be posting on my blog today about him. My family is very close, so all of the nieces & nephews were like our own children. I'm so happy to hear that your dad knew the Lord, makes heaven just that much sweeter, doesn't it?
The picture is beautiful...Sunrise & sunsets are probably my favorite scenes and you've captured a beauty!

What a beautiful photo, and beautiful thoughts to go along with it. I lost my darling dad, 6 years ago, and it is just as fresh today as it was when we said goodbye. I will always miss him, but I know we will be together again.

Beautiful post - and I so understand - my Dad went to be with our Lord at sunrise - it was the most glorious one I'd seen and I know my Dad got the best glimpse of it. Hugs to you today.

If you hadn't labeled it "sunset" I'd have thought it a sunrise. I can't imagine how good the sun felt to Lazarus called forth from his tomb still all cocooned, 'though Jesus Whose frame no longer needed the sun and Who had changed death for all time, came out of His borrowed tomb to soon go down to the beach to await His heartbroken and exhausted friends with a breakfast of hot fish. One can hardly imagine their shout of joy over Him.. or His, over them.

You know, just as I rarely visit graves for only their earthly remnants rest there, I'd never thought to visit with loved ones who've passed by *seeing* them in the very elements they were upgraded from. It's a comforting thought. God bless your dad, and you.

Great photo and lovely words. My mum died on the shortest day 2002 and I miss her every day. Sunsets always make me think fondly of her.

Nice reading about your loving father - mine was not a word or two in my memory to remember, sorry :-(

I lost my father in 1981 and you're right, certain things will bring him to the front of your memory. It doesn't matter if it's been three years or thirty either. Our thoughts are with you Steve.

I am forever chasing sunsets. I love them so much and now will love them even more knowing what a beautiful tribute you have captured in honor of your father. Steve, they never leave us completely because they impart so much while they are here.

I am sorry for your loss. God bless.

Love the analogy. I never looked at it quite that way, but I see it... A new day will someday come for us, too!
