Great Horned Owl Pounces On A Snake

This Great Horned Owl leaped from a nearby tree to the ground less than 15 feet from me while I was sitting in my car. I have never been able to see one of these owls in the wild so close up. It sat there for a few minutes and looked like it wasn't doing anything but soon you could see that it had trapped a 24" snake. After a few minutes this owl consumed the entire snake and flew away.

Very odd to have the usually shy Great horned Owl acting so naturally. quite a capture.

Fantastic. I have a great horned owl close by my house. I hear it at least 3 or 4 times a week, usually in the wee hours of the morning, but I've never seen it. I've even sat outside waiting but to no avail. Great, great shots.
